Finding your surgeon from among all those tubal reversal doctors will at times seem like such a chore. After all, there is much you do need to know about to make the best decision for you. The following paragraphs will help you with this effort.
Although there are many facts you will want to learn about each doctor you are reviewing, perhaps the most important can boil down to 1) does he listen to you and respond to you, and 2) what do other women have to say about him. You will find that having a caring doctor goes a long way to making your experience better.
But let’s start with the basics. The basics, of course, mean the background of each surgeon you are reviewing. Where did he go to school and where did he train after school? Who gave him his training in tubal reversal surgery?
Next you want to know about his experience. How many of these surgeries does he do weekly? Or are you going to have to ask for yearly? By that, I mean he can only tell you he has done two surgeries in the last year so a weekly number is not something he can produce.
Who does your doctor associate with? Now, I’m not asking about his friends outside of work. What we need to know is how good are his staff, the anesthesiologist, and the surgical team? Are they the same people he works with every week and who, therefore, know what is going on? Or, in the case of the one hit wonder, does he get just whoever is working the day your surgery is scheduled whom he may have never worked with before?
All the above are important but maybe one of the most important things, as I alluded to above, is whether or not he responds to your questions. Or does someone at least from the office answer your questions and concerns? Do you get the feeling they really care about you as their patient or are you simply another paycheck? How easy is it to communicate with the doctor and his staff? Do they provide more than just the phone as a means of contact?
You also want to know what other women who have had the surgery think. You want to know their experience with the doctor you are reviewing. Surely you have some way of checking. Are there testimonials on his website? Can you talk to these women through a message board? Will some even let you contact them through email? This latter may be something you can do through the message board.
Now you have some things to help you consider all the available tubal reversal doctors. Finding the right one for you should be a bit simpler now.
