Last month one of my husband’s close business associates got married. For two months before the joyous event I stressed out about what to get them. I racked my brain for an original, unique item that would be a delightful surprise. I wanted our gift to them to represent how happy we were for them.
In my quest, I visited a dozen stores and picked through a ton of toasters, bed sheets, and towels. Nothing seemed to say “unique” or “surprise.” They all said “ordinary.” I gave up and decided to try and find something online. I found some interesting suggestions, a gift basket of chocolates, or a bottle of wine. This grew into an idea of making my own gift, a wine gift basket!
I felt it was the perfect gift for them. I knew they enjoyed good wines, and I thought this would set the perfect mood for romance. It seemed wonderful for a pair of newlyweds! I used a picnic basket and added everything they would need for a nice wine and cheese tasting: two bottles of wine, a pair of wine glasses and charms, a corkscrew and some gourmet cheeses and crackers.
It was surprisingly simple to assemble this elegant gift. My husband was very impressed when he saw the basket. He thought I must have spent a small fortune on something so extravagant. He was delighted when I told him this was my own creation. He was ready to finance a gift-basket business of my own! I was very proud of the gift I’d made for our happy couple, and shocked at how simple it was to do.
After attending the wedding my husband and I have became fast friends with the couple. They absolutely loved the gift and said it was a very nice item to take on their honeymoon with them. They hope to one day use the picnic basket to take their children on picnics in the park. I knew I loved their gift, but I never imagined how much use they would get out of it. That was just a nice surprise.
I’m planning on making more of these gifts for my friends and family. I don’t want to share the news of my new creative enthusiasm, because I want them to see it first hand when I give them a gift basket. Gift baskets are very versatile gifts and quite appropriate for people of any age or life-style. My husband wants me to make him one for our next anniversary, so I’ll have to be extremely creative to think of just the right surprise to add!
