How Does The Plasma Television Works?
The plasma gas that is in plasma TVs is made up of Xenon and Neon gases. There are small cells or pixels that contain these gases and they are over the whole plasma screen. The various sub-pixels along with the interiors of the other pixels are coated with a substance called phosphor. All pixels are made up of 3 sub-pixels that contain a primary color. Then the pixels are sandwiched between 2 pieces (or panes) of glass.
An electrode is connected to each plate; these electrodes run the entire length of the glass plates, which forms a grid on both plates. The electrodes are connected to a computer that emits a current to the electrode on the corresponding position on the grid to charge the gases in the pixels. This would cause the gases to ionize, which would ultimately cause the gases to produce an ultraviolet ray.
This ray would then cause the phosphor coated pixels to glow with the right color. When all the pixels are lit up at the same time, they make a clear, smooth image on the screen.
