Book Review of “The Message” by Lance Richardson

by Christopher Loch

A motorcycle crash left Latter-day Saint author Lance Richardson comatose in a hospital bed. While his body lay lifeless and unresponsive to his family members, his spirit was soaring in the Spirit World. Like the people in many Near Death Experience accounts, Lance is greeted upon arrival into the Spirit World by family members who have since passed beyond the veil.

During his time there Lance reveals some fascinating insights into the place our spirits go after we die and the ones who live there:

1. The spirits of humans, plants, and animals communicate with each other telepathically.

2. Lions are as docile as house cats.

3. When directed, our deceased ancestors can leave the Spirit World and come to Earth to help us in times of need.

4. The Spirit World and Earth actually co-exist in the same place but in different dimensions.

While he is in the Spirit World Lance is told that his mission is to come back to Earth and write a very important message for others to read. Here are the main points of The Message:

1. God, our Heavenly Father, loves his children more than we can ever understand.

2. The Founding Fathers were inspired to create a land where freedom of religion in possible. America is destined to become the home of the New Jerusalem, the Zion of the latter days. God will protect America as long as she honors and serves Him. If America does not turn back to God her people will be destroyed.

3. America has turned away from the morals and ideals that once made our country strong.

4. As part of this trend, America has embraced the idea that truth is relative, when in fact it is eternal.

5. The family unit is vital to the survival of America and must be protected at all costs.

6. Service is the mode of Heaven and is the greatest principle in the creation of any society. When each person seeks for the betterment of the whole, not themselves, they will learn to love one another in a way they have never experienced before. This in turn brings both people closer to God and transforms them into more God-like people. Through this process our homes, our cities, and our nation can be transformed into Zion.

This short book is fascinating and uplifting and I recommend it to everyone who has ever wondered what lies beyond this life. I’ve since passed on my copy to others who had recently lost loved ones and were wondering what happened to them after they died.

Although Lance’s account of the Spirit World is neither confirmed nor denied by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to which he belongs, I did not read anything in Brother Richardson’s account that I felt was against established LDS doctrine. Lance’s story is very solemn and I believe that he believes what he is saying. After reading his book I eagerly anticipate the day I can see my departed loved ones again.
